California Federation BPW Legislative Platform 2010-2012

MISSION STATEMENT
Our Mission is to achieve equity for all women in the workplace through
advocacy, education and information.

PREAMBLE
The Equal Rights Amendment shall stand first and foremost above all other items on the legislative platform of this Federation until equal rights have been guaranteed in both the California and United States Constitutions.

The Alice Paul Equal Rights Amendment
"Equality of rights under the law shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of sex."

The California Federation Supports Legislation, Education and Funding for:

CIVIL RIGHTS
Ensure equal rights and remedies for all women at all phases of their lives. Support affirmative action. Eliminate sexual harassment, violence against all women, and all forms of discrimination.

ECONOMIC EQUITY
Ensure pay equity, equitable family laws, equal educational and economic opportunities for all women. Promote affordable, quality dependent care and housing to help ensure economic self-sufficiency for all women.

HEALTH
Ensure reproductive choice and full access to all services and education in the areas of reproductive health and family planning. Ensure funds for research into and protection for all health care needs affecting women.

POLICY ISSUES
The California Federation of Business and Professional Women supports the following public policy issues:

•The continued existence and full state funding of the
California Commission on the Status of Women.
•Ratification by the United States Senate of the United Nations Convention on the Elimination of all Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW).
•Compliance with and enforcement of Title IX of the Civil Rights Act.
• Other issues of importance which promote the objectives of the California Federation of BPW.
